Shimanami Kaido?

Hello everyone,
The Shimanami Kaido has been on my bucket lost for idk how many years. I'm a solo traveler and somewhat athletic on a bike and seeing how I have very tight schedule for my Japan trip, I wanted to know if the cycling can be done in one day? I've read a few posts that the path might get confusing at times and that most people tend to spend a night at one of the ryokans along the way. I don't have the time to do that as I have a hotel booking in Imabari. So, do you think one day is realistic and how long does it approx. take?

I am a not very fast club rider and I found it easily doable in a day. I got a ferry from Hiroshima to Matsuyama & rode to Onomichi via Imabari, then got the Shinkansen back to Hiroshima. I did plan to ride further but the light went on me. The issue is that you have to get to & from the start & finish point. So you would finish up in Onomichi but would have to get back to Imabari somehow, or takyubin your luggage to your next stop and get there after the ride. The ride from Imabari to Onomichi took about 4 hours including a stop for some Ramen halfway. Here is my ride https://app.strava.com/activities/9941810

Thank you two the above users for reypling.
Actually, I'll be based in Okayama, pack a light gym bag for Imabari, take the earliest train possible to Onomichi and plan to do nothing but cycle on said day. I'll return to Onomichi by bus the next day.
