How to plan for Drift Racing events in 2016? 2015/7/19 02:37
I want to try to plan a spring trip in 2016 for about 12 days with my boyfriend. It will be my first time and I'm doing research. My bf is a big car enthusiast so I'm trying to do research and trying to catch a drift racing event. I am now familiar with a few different circuits in Tokyo but I have no idea when I should book my flight so I can see an event.

I got a hold of a few different sites and fortunately some are in English. This site shows different events http://www.d1gp.co.jp/03_sche/gp2015/gp1501/gp1501_index-e.html

Few questions
1. When does the 2016 schedule come out?
2. Will I have issues taking the JR from Tokyo to circuits? I heard it is difficult because it is in rural areas. Will I need to buy a bus pass or taxi (expensive!)?
3. How far in advance should I buy tickets and how? They are all in Japanese. I guess last resort is to ask my bf's car club member.
4. I will be there in maybe April or May trying to schedule around Golden week. How hard is it to catch a drift event? I'm afraid I will schedule it on a week where nothing is going on.

Thank you so much.

I wonder if the 2016 series will follow a similar format to 2015. Round one was a special course in Tokyo (Odaiba) in April and round 2 was at Suzuka in May.

There is a demo run scheduled for March, but I have not seen the 2016 full schedule - might not have been formulated yet.

Thank you for responding. May I have you please answer my other question? How difficult is it to get from train to the circuits? I have been told to drive but I don't want to rent a car and drive in a different country.

How difficult is it to get from train to the circuits?

In some places, it is very difficult. I've looked at several options following the SuperGT. Autopolis in Kyushu I rented a car for a couple of days, and Okayama circuit is supposedly accessible by train and shuttle bus. When I looked at Motegi one of the first comments I saw was about how difficult it was to get to.

Suzuka was fairly easy to get to, and I think Fuji is also in that category.

Some of the other places I've come across are easiest by car.

Hi there,

I'm doing exactly the same thing! My bf and I will be there in April of this year. The timetable has now been released:
http://www.d1gp.co.jp/index-e.html
Hope the dates suit you guys, unfortunately they didn't match our travel dates.

Depending on where you are traveling and what your bf is in to I have also booked an English speaking tour at the Mazda museum in Hiroshima and am attempting to book an English tour at the Nissan Oppama plant. Both tours are free and look pretty interesting.

Hope this has helped.

D1gp is not the only drift series in Japan.

MSC

and
Drift Muscle
http://www.driftmuscle.net/schedule/2016

They are both professional events and both have a round in April. But I think if you're in another area at that time, check the course website, sometimes a course will be running an amateur event which can still be enjoyable.

In terms of travel though, actually I have never bothered to check for train or bus, as most seem out of the way. I have always driven to event, other than Suzuka. Most courses are fairly rural, so its an easy drive, plus hire cars come with sat-nav so it's hard to get lost. As for admission, every round I have been to is pay at the gate.

Have a fun trip

Hi

I do not have any more information to the drift events.
I think, what is this two events that participants run the circuit with their own car.
