Wakkanai, Hokkaido for daytrip 2015/7/24 13:50
Is it worth to go to Wakkanai for a daytrip like 3.5hrs just to eat the freshest Uni?

I enjoy the JR rail train trip. Is the scenery on the way there beautiful?

A day trip from where? If from Sapporo, Otaru is not that far and worthwhile.

I guess you will be traveling from Asahikawa. I don't say it's beautiful, but I like it. It is a kind of desolated land, northern landscape which is rare in Japan. Further, if the weather is fine you can see Mt. Rishiri over the sea which I think is one of the most scenic view from train.

If you take morning Super Soya to Wakkanai and evening Super Soya to Asahikawa, you will have 4 hours in Wakkanai which would be enough to take lunch and stroll around the town. The food in Wakkanai might not be so special, but the train ride is nice if you like Japanese trains.

You can see lots of movies related to Super Soya limited express on Youtube.

Yes, a day trip from Asahikawa.

I am going to Wakkanai for the food and to see the desolate sights.

Thanks for the replies.
