Train & Subway Passes for Beginners 2015/7/28 15:23
Hi all,
I will be in Tokyo for just 4 days in September for honeymoon. We would like to see all the main spots in the city and do a 1 day trip to Nikko.
I thought about getting a JR East Pass to travel in and out of the city. Does it make sense? Would you recommend getting also a Suica or Pasmo? Or anything else?

Thank you very much!

Getting a suica or pasmo will make getting around the city easier than buying separate tickets. Just top up the card when you run low.

If you're just doing a day trip to Nikko then the Tobu 2 day Nikko Pass would be better value: http://japan-guide.com/e/e2358_002.html

If you want to ride the shinkansen, then the JR Kanto Pass would be a better option than the JR East pass. The East pass won't pay off. Make sure that you use it on the last three days of your trip, so that it also covers your trip back to the airport.

If you type the title of your query into the search box (top right hand corner of every screen), you'll get lots of information to answer your question.
