Hi,

I am travelling to Japan in less than a month and I badly need help regarding the JR pass.

I will go to Tottori and I would like to know if the following Trains are covered by JR Nationwide Pass.
I am looking at the 2 routes and I would like to know if these will be covered by JR Pass

FIRST ROUTE GOING TO TOTTORI

SECOND ROUTE GOING TO TOTTORI

THIRD ROUTE GOING TO TOTTORI
1. SHIN-OSAKA SHINKANSEN SAKURA 547 -- OKAYAMA LTD. EXP SUPER INABA 3 -- KAMIGORI LTD. EXP SUPER INABA 3 GOING TO TOTTORI STATION

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ROUTE GOING TO KOBE FROM TOTTORI

FIRST ROUTE:

1. TOTTORI LIMITED EXPRESS SUPER HAKUTO 8 - HIMEJI SHINKANSEN SAKURA 552 GOING TO SHIN-KOBE

SECOND ROUTE:

1. TOTTORI LTD. EXP SUPER HAKUTO 8 - KAMIGORI JR Sanyo Line - AIO(HYOGO) SHINKANSEN HIKARI 474 GOING TO SHIN-KOBE

Appreciate all your help.

Thank you.

Using http://www.hyperdia.com/en/ you can select either/or both JR lines and private railway.

If you choose the option from Kamigori there is a private section of line that is not covered by the JR Pass. I did this trip a few years ago and from memory there was a supplemental fare I paid on the train about Y700. It was a good trip.

Is Kamigori the only train/line that is not covered by Jr pass? I cant seem to choose the best option and the one that will be covered by Jr pass. Im a bit worried.

There are other private railways around Japan, when you get your tickets the JR staff can usually tell you how much the supplement is - it is not a big deal (or amount) usually. Last trip I travelled Niigata to Kanazawa and we told the supplement would be Y450, but it was actually Y210 (almost nothing).

Use hypedia with the "private railway" box cleared - for the Tottori trip I think it adds 90 minutes and you would miss the cute "love" station. http://www.japancrush.com/2013/pictures/can-this-pink-unmanned-station...

It's a while ago and I recall the station at Kamigori was nicely desolate. Why don;t you do one route there and a different one back?

Btw, we have jr green car pass. Based on blogs, we need to pay extra if we ride the limted express super hakuto. Since we are jr green pass holder and runs through a non jr line, are we going to pay more for a green car?

From Kamigori to Chizu Super Hakuto and Super Inaba run on Chizu Kyuko Line, which is not covered by JR pass. If you take green seat, you must pay for it: fare 1300 yen + Green seat fee 1040 yen = 2340 yen. Super Inaba 3 does not have green car, so you pay 1300+420=1720 yen.
