I've never heard of it before - in Japanese? 2015/8/25 20:01
How do you say "I've never heard of it before" in Japanese? Like "I've never heard of that movie before" or "I've never heard of that song before" any help would be great, thanks!

- Sono eiga no koto wa kiita koto ga arimasen. (I have never heard of that movie.)
- Sono uta no koto wa kiita koto ga arimasen. (I have never heard of that song.)

初耳(はつみみ、hatsumimi) is the noun you can use.
sono eiga ga hatsumimi desu.
sono uta ha hatsumimi desu.

@AK
For movie play is "mita koto ga/ha nai/arimasen[観た(見た)ことが/は ない(無い)/ありません(有りません)]".
If for movie/song title(except texts/prints) "kiita koto ga/ha nai/arimasen[聞いた(聴いた)ことが/は ない(無い)/ありません(有りません)]" right.

@ay
No!!

That "mimi[耳]" means "by ear(s)" for hearding/listening right but not for using a song/sound.
hatsumimi[初耳] for known something news/rumor as surprised fact/truth story only .
For song/sound/reading is "hatsu-giki[初聴き]" exist but not usual.
For look/watch/see is "syo-ken[初見]" usual. 見 means by eye(s).

@daaaniel
more simple answer "never〜V(past participle)" is "(ima-made)〜shita koto ga nai[(今まで)〜した事がない]" usual
(今まで)した事がない(shi-ta) done
(今まで)食べた事がない(tabe-ta) ate
(今まで)書いた事がない(kai-ta) written
(今まで)聞いた事がない(kii-ta) heard/listened
but same meaning "first time" as exprience = hajimete[初めて] instead usual and easier using/saying.
ex)
初めてした(shi-ta) did
初めて食べた(tabe-ta) ate
初めて書いた(kai-ta) wrote
Hatsumimi is 初めて聞いた(kii-ta) heard/listened or 初めて知った(sit-ta) knew.
So just remember "hajimete" + past of Verb.

If formal use "〜mashita.[〜ました。]" instead.
ex)
初めてしました(shi-mashita)
初めて食べました(tabe-mashita)
初めて書きました(kaki-mashita)
初めて聞きました(kiki-mashita)
初めて知りました(siri-mashita)

Also some Verbs replaced [〜no(〜の)] + Noun(or V + N) as object usual.
初めて食べました is hajimete no aji(taste). 初めての味
or hajimete taberu/tabeta aji(taste) 初めて食べる/食べた味
初めて聞きました is hajimete no kyoku/oto( song/sound) 初めての曲/音
or hajimete kiku/kiita kyoku/oto( song/sound) 初めて聴く/聴いた曲/音

The OP is asking for never "heard of (the existance of something)," so both AK and ay's suggestions are perfect, except that we basically don't say "ga hatsumimi" but we say "wa hatsumimi."
