Can chinchillas be imported into Japan?

Please help! My husband and I are PCSing to Okinawa, Japan from the US and have a chinchilla, I'm getting a lot of mixed information. Online it seems possible, but talking with a pet relocation service they say Japan doesnt allow the import. O want to have hime with us so bad! Any info would help!

Not sure about the process, but I saw a chinchilla in a pet store in Japan, so they're definitely allowed in the country.

I know they are there, but one of the things someone told me was because they didn't originate there they cannot privately be imported..
