Getting the right travel pass 2015/9/4 18:20
Hi,
Planning a 10-days trip to Japan in December - need advise on my tour itinerary & also on the most appropriate travel pass for itinerary in sequence as follows :

1) Arriving in Osaka (Kansai Int'l Airport) in the morning;
2) proceed to Kyoto from airport;
- stay 2 nights & visit places of interest in Kyoto;
3) continued from Kyoto to Shirakawa;
- stay 2 nights & explore around Shirakawa;
4) head to Takayama from Shirakawa;
- stay 1 night & experience Takayama;
5) from Takayama, continue towards Hamamatsu;
- stay 1 night;
6) depart from Hamamatsu, and proceed to Tokyo;
- stay 3 nights in Tokyo
7) leave for Narita Int'l airport from Tokyo.

BEST TRAVEL PASS :-
From Osaka (Kansai) - Kyoto - Shirakawa - Takayama- Nagoya
- "Takayama Horuika Area Tourist Pass"
Question - does this pass also covers traveling within each region?

Please suggest best travel pass after Nagoyo all the way to Tokyo, including to places of interest within each region.

Appreciate your kind assistance and suggestions, as I am really confused with the transport systems, especially this is my first time touring Japan.

Thank you for your valuable help.

Greetings,

Just on a quick note regarding your itinerary:

1) Arriving in Osaka (Kansai Int'l Airport) in the morning;
2) proceed to Kyoto from airport;
- stay 2 nights & visit places of interest in Kyoto;
3) continued from Kyoto to Shirakawa;
- stay 2 nights & explore around Shirakawa;
4) head to Takayama from Shirakawa;
- stay 1 night & experience Takayama;
5) from Takayama, continue towards Hamamatsu;
- stay 1 night;
6) depart from Hamamatsu, and proceed to Tokyo;
- stay 3 nights in Tokyo
7) leave for Narita Int'l airport from Tokyo.

IMHO, I feel that you should add an extra day or two to Kyoto rather than spending 3 nights in the Takayama/Shirakawago area. There is so much more to see in Kyoto. Takayama/Shirakawago does not really require so many days.

Hope this helps :)

Thank you Ohara for your suggestion.

My travel plan is as follows :- Starting from Kansai Airport - Kyoto(2N) - Kanazawa -Shirakawa(2N) - Takayama (1N) Hamamatsu(1N)- Tokyo(3N) - Narita

Rather confused of the different types of passes available. Need help to advise :-
(1) which pass should I consider -
- 5 days Takaya-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass
(Covering from Kansai and ending in Nagoya)
- 7 days Japan Rail Pass
(Covering from Kyoto and ending inTokyo)
Single trip tickets will be purchased for routes for covered under whichever pass.

(2) whichever pass suggested - which day and which destination should I activate the pass, in order to make the most of the pass.

Thank you, and best regards

You may think about doing this:

Takaya-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass
Nohi bus from Takayama to Shinjuku
Ito Free Pass

Here are links for the Nohi bus and Ito Free Pass:

I hope this helps.
