Kaga or Okuhida onsen?

Dears, maybe you can advice me:
We plan our (fifth) trip to J in next April, and first week we will be in Kanazawa & Takayama. Second week will be in Kyoto, and between these nice places we have 2 nights to spend in onsen.
Logistically both Kaga and Okuhida are ok (we are on public transport), but which one is better to choose? Nice small town/village, good ryokan, onsens, beautiful nature - all matters.

In my opinion Okuhida is superior to Kaga in all aspects except maybe for a town, as Hirayu is not too attractive and the other areas of Okuhida do not have much of a town. In contrast, Yamanaka Onsen has a somewhat attractive town.
