Kamakura day trip 2015/9/15 12:29
Is it worth it visiting Kamakura as a day trip from Tokyo?
If so, which itinerary you guys recommend?

Yes, it is a nice day trip, only about 45 mins. from Tokyo.
Which part of Tokyo are you leaving from?

Part of the time I will be near Tokyo Station, and part in Shibuya.

From Tokyo, take the JR Tokaido line to OHFUNA. There you can buy a Kamkura-Enoshima Free Kippu (1-day ticket for unlimited riding on the Shonan Monorial, JR in the area and the Enoden (Enoshima Railway).
Here is a trip that will take 1/2 day or more. Click SLIDESHOW, upper right.

Great day trip! We hired bikes in town and rode around to the temples

I took the train to Kitakamakura station and walked south toward the city, stopping off at the various shrines and temples along the way. It was an awesome day out and I highly recommend it.

These are not the best walks, but give you a taste of what you can do

My favourite is the second one. Get off at Kita-Kamakura station. Visit the temples and walk down to Kamakura station via the main shrine.

Also recommend you check out the Taya Caves while you're in the area. Near Ofuna, they were hand carved out of the mountainside by Shingon monks roughly between the years 1200 to 1700.

That's my luck Saru Bob. I used to lived 30 minutes from Kamakura and probably visited 8 or so times. Then I leave and someone mentions a place I now want to visit :-(
