3 hours in Aomori 2015/9/17 22:15
Hello all
I have 3 hour stopover in Aomori at lunch time before heading to Tokyo. Is there enough time to see anything nearby to pass the time?
Thanks in advance

Auga for sushi.
There is a touristy gift shop mall-- forgot the name but it has some shoppong stores. Building is screened with red metal bars-- kinda unique. Nebuta ship is inside.

If you get rally bored maybe go to hirosaki, only 30 mins away for the castle sights.

Just head north towards the water. There's a pleasant park walk to be had there and on the left (west) side you can go up an indoor staircase to a nice viewing platform built into the distinctive bridge you'll see.
But with 3 hours my recommendation would be a quick trip to the floating train ferry that's now a museum. It's quite big inside but if you don't dally you should be able to see the whole thing. Before the Seikan tunnel was complete trains would be loaded into these big ferries right from Aomori Station and taken to Hakodate (there's a similar ferry museum there, incidentally). It's really cool inside. Again, just head north from the station and when you get to the water look for the big ship all tied down and sort of built into the docks. You can't miss it.

I will recommend Furukawa market and Sannai Maruyama ruins (or Aomori Prefectural Museum of Art).

Furukawa market close from Aomori Station.
Sannai Maruyama ruins are close more from Shin-Aomori Station.
Here is the main tourist destination of Aomori.
