Ohara or Takao? 2015/10/3 21:27
Good day. I'll be visiting Kyoto end of October. Would like to take a short day trip. But due to limited time can choose one only, Ohara or Takao? Which one is nicer? 😀

Both are located in valleys and have a small town and temples. The biggest difference is that the valley in Ohara is very wide and not very steep and includes farms, while Takao's valley is very steep and narrow. Neither will have much autumn colors in late October.

I personally like Sanzenin best among all the attractions in Ohara and Takao combined. So, if I hadn't been to either yet, I would choose Ohara.

Ohara is a very special place (at least to me).

I have been to both places and would highly recommend Ohara.

Thank you very much UJI SAN & the other responder. 😀 ... Is there a place near Kyoto for a day trip to see the early change of autumn colors around end of October?😀

Koyasan could be nice, although it is not very close to Kyoto:

Well you could walk from kumano kodo or kiikatsura to koyasan. The pilgrimage trek.

If not mountainous regions may be a good choice. Kurama or mt hiei may have some. Though they aren't that popular
