Looking at some photos I took in late March in Nikko several years ago, it was still chilly, and we saw just bits of snow remaining around Kegon waterfalls (not in central Nikko), but even up there it was just on the rocks by the waterfall and nothing you can play in. So you "might" see some in the higher elevations, but I cannot say for sure (of course).
When you ask if it will be "worth a visit," what do you want to see? We enjoy visiting Nikko any time of the year.

Thank you AK. So not too much snow in early April.. that sounds OK. I am thinking about both the shrines and the national park. So something like a nice hike (4-6 hours) in the national park + a visit to the onsens. So I was mostly wondering how the national park is like in early April.
Thanx & regards,
John
