How many road tunnels are in Japan?

How many road tunnels in total does Japan have?
When I look on wikipedia it only gives a small list of tunnels in Japan, and it doesn`t say how many there are in total.

The reason that not many are mentioned is there are just too many of them.
Japan is a very mountainous country which has spent a lot of infrastructure over a long period of time. As such - it even puts countries like Switzerland to shame in the number of road tunnels there are.
For example, I think there is at least 10+ tunnels of some significance between Takayama and Shirakawago which is only around 45 minutes from memory....

9760 in 2012.
this number does not contain tunnels of railways and other roads (constructed for agricultural and other uses).
