I have read that you can only purchase 1 Japan Rail Pass per visit to Japan. Can you buy a Japan Rail pass and a JR Sanyo Sanin(or similar regional pass) to use in the same trip?

Where did you hear that - there is no restriction. I have two passes for my next trip and I will activate them on different days.

I should clarify:- a number of the regional passes e.g. Sanyo Sanin have conditions which say only 1 pass per visit, but can I use a number of regional passes and a general japan rail pass all within the one trip?

Sanyo Sanin have conditions which say only 1 pass per visit
If purchase inside Japan, otherwise no limit.
