Hi!
I have never travelled to Japan before and I am trying to plan a trip for my partner and I and I need some help.
We will be flying from Tokyo down to Kyushu and want to go to an Onsen. I have read that Kurokawa Onsen is one of if not the best in Japan and I'm just trying to figure out whether it would be best to fly to direct to Kumamoto and then travel to the onsen from there or if there is a better way? Sorry, I literally have no idea so any pointers would be amazing.
Thank you!!! :)

The basics are explained in the access section of the Kurokawa Onsen page: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4575.html#section_getThereIf you travel by public transportation, you should fly into Fukuoka or Kumamoto Airport and catch a bus from there. Fukuoka tens to have the cheaper fares, but the bus ride from the airport is shorter (and cheaper) from Kumamoto Airport. However, I think it is also less frequent. I would also consider renting a car because it makes not only access to Kurokawa but also generally the exploring of the area much easier. In that case, I personally would prefer flying into Kumamoto Airport because it is closer. About car rentals: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2024.html

Thank you Uji, that's excellent :)
You wouldn't be able to recommend a good ryokan to stay at which is close to the onsen would you?

For ryokan info, why not just read the info on the pages Uji linked for you, above?
