You can still find snow in the high mountains. I recommend taking the ropeway up Asahidake in Daisetsuzan National Park, but it seems that the ropeway may not be operating just during the period that you will be visiting:

An alternative is Kurodake Ropeway in Soukyou, also Daisetsuzan National Park:

Thanks Uji,

You mean if the ropeway is close then we need to hike up the hill to feel the snow ?

Kurodake Ropeway in Soukyou

I visited Sounkyo Onsen in May a few years ago.
The Ropeway was operational, and still plenty of snow also the weather was warm then ; I just wore a polo shirt.
By the way the ropeway is just minutes walk from the bus terminal/ information centre.
