Will the Tokyo-Osaka Hokuriku Arch Pass (available in Apr 16) take longer to get to from Tokyo to Kyoto as it is going a different route or will it take the same time using the standard JR route?

Travelling from Tokyo to Kyoto via the Tokaido shinkansen will take you around 3 hours by a Hikari train direct. If you use the Tokyo-Osaka Hokuriku Pass, it'll take roughly 5 hours via a Kagayaki train on the Hokuriku shinkansen and a Thunderbird limited express, involving a transfer at Kanazawa. If you are pressed for time, then the former option would suit you better. If not, consider making the trip via the Hokuriku region; there are some pretty interesting sights along the route!
