About the All Nikko Pass

Hi!
I will be staying in Nikko for 1 week in December, and was planning to buy two All Nikko Passes for the duration of the trip.
Since the pass includes a round trip to Tokyo:
Is the round trip effective only on the first and last day of the pass?
So for example, for 1 pass:
Day 1 of pass - stay in Nikko, visit around
Day 2 of pass - visit Tokyo, use up the round trip
Day 3 of pass - Nikko
Day 4 of pass - Nikko
Would this be possible?
Or is the validity of the pass nulled once the round trip to Tokyo is used?

Any reason you're staying in Nikko for so long. 4 days is usually more than enough for most people to see the sights.
