Where to visit in July? 2016/1/9 01:04
Hi. I am aware that July is rainy and summer season, which is probably not the best way to go to Japan. However, this seems to be the only time i can visit Japan this year. Any suggestions on where (i.e which region, city, what to do) I should go to?
Tentative date would be around: 1 July - 15 July.
Personally I love Japanese food culture and also definitely want to enhance my food culture experience in Japan again this time round. And I probably would love to go to Osaka again, esp Doutonbori (any similiar areas like Doutonbori which u recommend to visit during these period)? Do advise.

Thanks a lot

Then, I recommend you to visit the Kansai Region around Osaka. Osaka and Kyoto combined offer unlimited dining options of all types. I also recommend to make a side trip into the countryside in order to experience not just the large cities. Possible destinations are the Kumano Region, northen Kyoto Prefecture and Kinosaki Onsen, and many more:

Kyoto has Gion Matsuri in July, but you might miss the main day.

Osaka has Danjiri Festival and Nachi Himatsuri.

And, I suppose it depends, but if you are travelling as far as Kyushu, you could check out Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival

OMG Thanks so much for the replies!
Thanks for the suggestion, too.
I'll intend to spend 4 days in Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto and inclusive of the suburb area) and attend some of the festivals. (Will post the further details soon). My issue I have is will it get too hot in Kansai area during that period (1 July-15 July)? I heard it will be extra humid and scortching hot. I, myself, come from a tropical Asian country with avg 27-32 degree celcius temp. Not sure I can withstand the heat if it is that bad?

Do you think it is also a good idea to visit Mt Fuji on July? If yes, how do u think I should plan the trip? Like how manY days should I spend there? I am totally clueless abt Mt Fuji and the area. And reading the articles, somehow confuses me more.

I alsof heard it is best chance to visit Hokkaido in July.. but tbh reading hokkaido brochure.. it doesnt really interest me. :o. Should I try it?

Thanks. Please reply m ( _ _lm. Thx a lot

You will find smaller crowds until the schools let out on, which is usually about mid July. Here are my picks for the early July Festivals:

Tanabata in Hirasuka (near Yokohama) - July 7th

Danjiri (cart pulling) Festival, Kumata Shrine in Osaka - July 12-13

Nachi Hirasuka (Fire Festival) - South of Osaka - July 14th

Gion Mansuri - Kyoto July 16-17

I included links to see if these would be interesting to you. I hope this helps.
