Help Kyoto side trips 9 days Pass

Hi, planning a trip for kyoto with side trips.. I was hoping someone could suggest the best pass to use and if this seems doable, I'm a little confused about which pass would be better the kansai thru pass (max 3 days offered) vs JR Kansai area pass (maximum 4 days)..

I had in in mind to activate the JR kansai area pass on day 5...
Day 1 - arrive KIX osaka travel to kyoto and stay the night.
Day 2 - East/Central Kyoto, stay the night
Day 3- West Kyoto, night kyoto
Day 4 - North Kyoto, night kyoto
Day 5 - Day trip to himeji and kobe, night kyoto
Day 6 - Koyasan Spend the night
Day 7 - Osaka, night Osaka
Day 8 - Day trip Nara, night Osaka
Day 9 - Leave Osaka

Any recommendations about passes would be great.

Use Hyperdia (hyperdia.com/en) to calculate the cost of your train fares, and compare the total cost to the cost of the passes. Then decide which one seems best.

As you are only really travelling longer distances on days 5 to 8, you could look at the 4 or 5-day Kansai passes, and only one of those days would actually be an expensive train travel day.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I've decided to edit my trip based on hyperdia ticket costs... thought maybe getting a 2 day JR West pass would be the cheapest option...

1. KIX Airport to Kyoto (use JR Pass day 1)
2. Himeji and Kobe (use JR Pass day 2)
3. South/Central Kyoto
4. East Kyoto
5. West Kyoto
6. Koyasan (Overnight) - purchase the Koyasan Heritage pass
7. Half day Koyasan + Half Day Osaka
8. Nara (day trip from osaka)
8. Osaka - KIX
