Hakone 2 day tour 2016/2/9 18:36
Hi

I need help, we are planning to go to Hakone on 02/23/16 and stay there for a night. What will be the best itinerary if we plan to do the ropeway, fuji q highland and stay in a ryokan (pref. with a private onsen). and do some sightseeing if time permits.

and is there a higher probability of snow during the time of our stay?

Thanks

If you are planning on going to Fuji Q Highland, you might want to consider going to Kawaguchiko (Lake Kawaguchi) instead of Hakone.

Kawaguchiko has its own ropeway (though short), a boat cruise on the lake, etc., as well. I don't know how much time you want to spend at Fuji Q, but if you stay over near Kawaguchiko area, you could take the bus to visit some caves around Saiko (another lake nearby, accessible via bus from Kawaguchiko station).

For ourselves, we've done a visit to Kawaguchiko area in an overnight trip; day 1: leisurely getting to Kawaguchiko station from Shinjuku, ropeway, walk along the lake, then taking the bus to our hotel (on the north shore). Day 2: taking the ropeway, then taking the bus toward Lake Saiko to look at some wind cave and bat cave, then returning to Kawaguchiko station, back to Shinjuku.

On this page, select "To/From Fuji Five Lakes" from the dropdown menu to see the distance between Hakone and Kawaguchiko (and Fuji Q Highland):

Note that the Hakone ropeway to Owakudani (the good viewpoint) is closed indefinitely at the moment. Lake Kawaguchiko is the better choice if the Hakone ropeway was your main focus.

Look at the Kawaguchiko section of this website for transport information.
