i planned to start my nara trip from kintetsu nara station and walk to Todaiji Temple.
on the way back to the train station , can i catch a bus from Todaiji temple to JR nara station?

Yes, there are frequent buses going to both Kintetsu and JR Nara station from there. The bus stop is named N7 "Todaiji Daibutsuden Kokuritsu Hakubutsukan" . When you exit Todaiji temple through the main gate (Nandaimon) , walk to the crossroads, and the bus stop is on the opposite side of the road slightly to the right.

The nearest Bus Stop at Todaiji temple is NO. N-7.
Any bus will take you to JR Nara Station.
