Backpackers' accomodation in Sendai/Tohoku

Hi guys, last autumn, I spent 3 weeks backpacking in Japan, and it was an amazing experience. I stayed at K's house for most of my trip, and I really like how cheap yet fun a stay it was!
This April, I plan to visit Tohoku for 5-6days. My planned route is Sendai, Yamagata, Zao, Iwate, and finally Aomori.
I've tried looking online,but travelling solo, I can't seem to find a convenient yet inexpensive hostel. Travellers of Japan-Guide, have you guys any reccomendations as to where I should base at or any good hostels? :)
