Train to Takayama

We're arriving to Osaka on April 13th. We plan to activate our JR pass the following day (14/4 which is the 1st day of the Takayamya festival) and take the train to Takayama.
My concern is that getting a seat on 14/4 without prior reservations, may be a problem due to the high demand to the destination.
We were thinking to purchase the Osaka-Takayama ticket online now so we can ensure seats but then we pay for this lag although we can go free with the pass.
Any input or advise will be greatly appreciated.

If you don't want to pay anything, you only option if everything is booked is to use unreserved seats, either on the Hida limited express or on local trains.

Since you purchase JR Pass(Japan Rail Pass?), you may take Hokuriku Line via Kanaszawa to Takayama.

When you arrive at KIX (Kansai Int'l Airport, Osaka) you can exchange the voucher for the JR Pass at the airport and get tickets for Takayama at the same time.
If you can't get seats, going through Kanazawa or Toyama is a good option.
