Shibu Onsen after Alpine Route 2016/4/21 14:52
Is it feasible to get to Yudanaka Station to stay in the Shibu onsen area after finishing the Alpine Route at the Ogizawa end?

We are travelling in July.

We are more interested in seeing the snow monkeys than the onsen experience.

Would it be better to stay in Nagano and do a trip to and from the Monkey Park the next day, rather than doing the extra travel from Nagano after finishing the Alpine Route?

Totally possible, but you'll want to get an early start on the Alpine Route as it takes about 5 hours to do without stops.

Either is good as you won't be able to see the monkeys on the same day as the Alpine Route anyway. Also consider that there are direct buses between Nagano and the Snow Monkeys. That might change the math for you guys.

Thanks, Yllwsmrf.

Can you help with an English timetable for the Nagaden bus from Nagano?

There don't seem to be any English timetables. What bus are you looking for?

I found a site with information on travel to the snow monkey area:http://www.snowmonkeyresorts.com/access/
including the express bus from Nagano.

The bus leaves Nagano at 10.15am, 12.25pm and 3.10pm.

However, I'm thinking still of heading there after the Alpine Route. If we caught the 4.30pm bus from Ogizawa, arriving at Nagano at 6.15pm, we could collect our luggage and have a quick dinner, and then catch the 7.34pm train to Yudanaka.
