Buying SIM card

I have a Pocket wifi that I purchased in Australia and have used it with both Australia and New Zealand SIM cards. I also have an unlocked iPhone 4 that I use when traveling. When I get to Japan in 10 days (I will be there for 2+ weeks), I would like to buy a SIM card for one of these devices to use for email, google maps and other apps. Will I be able to purchase one when I arrive at Narita or near Tokyo Station? Or is it best to order in advance to be delivered to my hotel? Or something else?

I have done a search but have not found specific, recent answer to my question about whether a Vodaphone pocket wifi will work with a SIM card that I can buy or rent in Japan.
