The Japan Rail Pass is generally for long-distance travel. As a rule of thumb, a 7-day pass pays off for a round trip between Tokyo and Osaka. IC cards are for urban transportation as an alternative to cash.

The JR Pass will pay off for your round trip to Osaka, PLUS you can use it on all 25(?) JR lines in Tokyo. Saves the hassle of buying tickets for every ride. Saves money, too.

If you are going to Osaka and returning, then yes a 7D JR pass will be suitable.

I'd like to note that Tokyo to USJ is about 3.5 hours one way with transfers. It is a long round trip for one single attraction.
