Hi, we plan to travel from Kawaguchiko station at Fuji Lakes to Kiso valley (our accom is at Nojiri). Which would be easier and more economical, train or car? I have searched Hyperdia ( http://www.hyperdia.com/cgi/en/search.html?dep_node=KAWAGUCHIKO&arv_no... ) for the train routes but am turned off by the cost, long hours and numerous transfers, especially with luggage. Would car rental be a better option? Or are there better ways on public transport that I haven't found? If by car, is this route by google maps the best? https://goo.gl/maps/FgnYngvoYv42 Are there any toll charges on this route and how much are they? Thank you very much, please help if possible.

Car rent better or not depends on budget or number of travelers. But around Nojiri stn no drop-off point as Car rent branch.

By car- exploring the things that you never get it from train. No worry, GPS is wonderful. Have fun!

Completely and totally recommend hiring a car! You will see SO MUCH more! And if you do hire a car, do make the effort to not simply rush down the fastest route but go a more roundabout way - Japan is packed full of hidden gems, and that is a nice part of the world! But be aware that although driving in Japan is pretty straight forward, times are often not correlated to distance as the smaller roads can be very slow going... Haven't done that drive yet, but my blog might give you some idea of what you are able to see/do if you have your own set of wheels.. https://myjapantravels.wordpress.com/
