Do you need to wash mu-senmai? 2016/5/17 14:11
I am wondering does this mean the rice has not been washed or do not need to be washed and can be cooked directly?

Thank you.

No need to wash, just add suitable water.

無(mu)洗(sen)米(mai) means just skipping 2nd step
"米研ぎ/kome-togi" washing/polishing rice by clean water.

http://image.space.rakuten.co.jp/lg01/09/0000793309/74/imge38138e8zikb...
(1st step is "計量/kei-ryou" amout of rice by measure cup)

無 means "no/non"
洗 means "wash" but in this case hidden "need to"
米 means "rice
研ぐ(togu/as verb) means "sharpen/polish" but in this case just "wash"

So 無洗米 is not "no polished rice" like "玄米/gen-mai"
rice surface 米糠:kome-nuka/rice bran left not colored in white.
http://玄米ダイエット.biz/img/genmai-vert.jpg
http://www.musenmai.com/images/library/Image/contents/musenmai02.jpg
無洗米 is one of 白米/haku-mai polished already perfect.
(白/shiro means "white")

So 無洗米 makes faster time of rice cook as total best for busier/tired include lazy person
also no waste water for money saved well but recent 無洗米 are different
no break surface of rice so good taste part perfectly left and feeling good when eat/bite.
But above vid mentioned need a bit water plus better than 普通米(futuu-mai/regular rice).
(普通米 need 2nd step everytime).
But taste really good or not depends on
- rice brand(銘柄/mei-gara)
- amount of water pefectly (水加減/mizu-kagen)
(Japan is "軟水:nan-sui/soft water"don't use "硬水:kou-sui/hard water" if in out of Japan)
- Electric rice-cooker(炊飯器/sui-han-ki)'s model and functions
also preserving method is very important for blocking against hotter temp, humidty and oxidation.

If really want to eat faster than 炊飯器
use 無洗米 and 土鍋:do-nabe/earthen pot by GAS fire possible easiest like this.
https://youtu.be/qiSpT9LQfDo
But this way is no sale at inside of 土鍋 checking water amount harder than 炊飯器.
Just in Japan gas bill(as 都市ガス tosi/city-gas/not プロパンpuropan/LPG) cheaper
than electric/power bill as comparing same enagy work.

If really want to eat quickest than 炊飯器 and 鍋
buy "サトウのごはん/Satou-no gohan" for microwave need only 2 min :)
サトウのごはん is just product name.
(a bit expensive if eating frequently or large number group)

This product is vary famous in Japan also made funny TV-CM long years.
