Mini camper rental Japan 2016/5/21 23:12
I thought of doing some other kind of sightseeing in Japan and renting a mini camper car, not those huge cars famous in america but like a minivan or so that fits japanese roads.

What are rules and normal fees for staying in camping grounds? Can you safely park in a parking or will there be bad people kidnapping me at night ;)

I tried to find info here on Japan guide but no luck so far...

I got inspired by the movie Anata E from 2012 where the main character travels from Toyama to Nagasaki islands in a minivan type of car. Not sure where he stays at night but obviously sleeps in the car.

Since last year I've done about 30,000km travelling around Japan in my minicamper, and its easy as!

Michinoeki are good, but can be very noisy.

The truth is nobody really cares where you park, nobody is going to harm you, and the cops, while sometimes a bit officious, are generally cool and only bug you if they have good reason.

Of the five times I've had the cops banging on my van door at some unearthly hour have been to: warn me of bear sightings in the area; because I was very close to the Fukushima restricted zone where they are on high alert for potential vandals/looters; because somebody had been stealing money from the vending machine at a deserted michinoeki I was parked at; and once because I suspect some busybody called to cops to alert them there was a strange gaijin parked in the middle of nowhere.

Only once was I asked to move on, as I was parked on private property. Unfortunately, I'd had a few drinks by that time, but they were cool - one of the cops just drove me in the van to the nearest parking spot and bid me goodnight...

Its a really, really great way to see Japan - I can't recommend it enough!!!

On hiring, these guys seemed really friendly when I contacted with some queries:
