itinerary for mt. fujisan marathon

i will be attending the Mt. fujisan marathon on Nov 27, 2016.
i was planning to go to tokyo via haneda airport as recommended by 1 website. then stay there. transfer to kawaguchiko 2 days before race day?
im having a hard time deciding whether discover kawaguchiko before or after the race?
then head to kyoto then fly out from osaka back home?
any recommendation would be appreciated :)
we will be 4 in a group
