Walk icon in Hyperdia 2016/7/7 21:39
Hi Japan Guide,

What does the "walk" icon in between transfer icons mean in hyperdia? Do I need to walk out the train station? Below is an example of my Hyperdia search for a trip from Fushimi Inari to Shijo:
Dep icon - Fushimiinari Stn, ride Keihan Line
Tran icon - Gion Shijo
Walk icon
Tran icon - Kawaramachi, ride Hankyu Line
Tran icon - Karasuma
Walk icon
Arr icon - Shijo

Thanks for your help!!

Yes, the walking icon means you have to walk to the other station. Sometimes stations are not adjacent to one another and you must exit one to get to another.

Open Google MAP w/street view for confirm.
Colored thin pink area means underground railway stn with passage.
In that case Shijio-Karasuma and Shijo is same area
Also btw Kawaramachi and Shijo is long underground passage with.(a bit rare case)

Also especially in Kyoto(Kyoto city and around mainly)
official free app "Arukumachi KYOTO " is helpful
http://www.arukumachikyoto.jp/index.php?lang=en
aruku(歩く) means "walk" as explore
machi(まち/街/町) means "town"
This web also with "MAP search" page Google MAP based
http://www.arukumachikyoto.jp/map.php?lang=en
but no "street view" function with.
(click map left bottom "Google" logo if need)
