Sea Shipping Import Cost at Japan Port 2016/7/11 22:39
We are trying to import ~USD$1000 worth of goods from China for personal use.

What are the standard import costs at Japanese ports? Are there any port fees? Is there a fee for storage of items at the port as we may be overseas when the goods arrive?

We have been told by the seller that goods under $1000 are not subject to the 8% consumption tax, is this true?

Thanks

I have had only small parcel shipped to Japan via postal service, and when the value exceeds a certain amount (something like US$300 or so) they tend to inspect and charge consumption taxes (8%), as if I bought it in Japan, and the customs clearance charge, which has been like 500 yen with postal service.

I am not familiar with other port fee/storage fees.
