Fukuoka Side Trips 2016/8/30 18:14
Hi,
a) Is the Kawachi Wisteria Garden open in mid to end december? If yes are there flowers in bloom? Also what else is there to see besides the wisterias?

b) Which areas is suitable for day or overnight trip from Fukuoka if travelling with a toddler?

Thank you

The Kawachi garden may be open, but wisteria bloom around golden week. This is early May.

As far as a side trip, Huis Ten Bosche, Nagasaki, and Beppu may be good choices. I believe there is a "Hello Kitty" land near Beppu.

This may be interesting to your child.

I hope this helps.

According to their website
http://kawachi-fujien.com/
they are open for the wisteria season as well as mid-Nov. to the first part of December (roughly the first 10 days) for the autumn colors - if you go in mid to late December it looks like they will not be open.

If you want to see Kitakyushu, the most interesting places are the Moji Retro area, Kokura Castle, and especially at twilight the view from atop Sarakurayama is really one of Japan's finest.

There is indeed a Sanrioland in Oita. But in terms of sheer variety, history, and great food (try the chanpon and saraudon) I would recommend Nagasaki - particularly as an overnight trip. It's easy to get around in and quite a nice place.

Fukuoka has a number of good places too. The Nanzoin Temple, Nokonoshima, and Fukuoka Tower are quite enjoyable.

Within the city, there are also Kashii-kaen and Uminonakamichi Parks and they would also likely suit your toddler.

Day trip = Kogashima, Kumamoto, Nagasaki, Beppu, Yufuin, Kita-Kyushu/Mojiko, Karastu, Sasebo, Huis Ten Bosch.

Overnight = anywhere in Kyushu. Miyazaki is 3.5 hours away by train, and it the furtherest and longest to get to in Kyushu.

Thank you very much everyone for your reply.
Really appreciate it.

Is it easy to travel to the main attractions?
Do they have the tourist bus that goes round?

Is the Green Park easy to get to?
