Hi folks,
Looking into possibility of booking a taxi from Sapporo JR station to Sounkyo Onsen (exact address below).
Choyo Tei 078-1795 Hokkaido, Kamikawa, Sounkyo Onsen, Japan
Has anyone done this/know if it's possible? Hotel does offer a pickup but it's only once a day and our train from Tokyo will not arrive in time.
Thanks in advance

Hokkaido is an island. Sapporo is a city in it. And you want to take a taxi from Sapporo?!?It is over 135km to Asahikawa alone. A taxi would be sheer insanity.Take a train to Asahikawa and then to Kamikawa Stn, and then take a taxi if you need to. Plus you are taking a train from Tokyo to Sapporo? It will take over 8 hours which would murder the whole day. Why not fly? There are cheap low cost carriers like Jet Star, Peach or Vanilla Air, or try ANA's Experience Japan fare. http://www.ana.co.jp/wws/us/e/wws_common/promotions/share/experience_j...You can be up there in less than 2 hours.

If I've got the hotel right, here is the access information for the hotel"
A 25-minute taxi ride from JR Kamikawa Train Station, the hotel is a 5-minute walk from Daisetsuzan Sounkyo Ropeway cable car and a 10-minute drive from Ryusei no Taki Waterfalls. It is a 2-hour drive from JR Asahikawa Train Station and provides free parking.
If you stick Sapporo to Kamikawa Station into google maps, it shows over 2 hours by car. Do you really want to take a 2 hour taxi ride?! If you've got that kind of money to burn, just take a helicopter or something! Otherwise, I'd rethink your plans, with the help of google maps this time to give you a better idea of distances. Hokkaido is big.
As Ken suggested, I think your best option is to fly. If you really want to take the train, I would break the journey up a bit and go to maybe Hakodate from Tokyo (4 hours), spend the night there are do a little sightseeing, then head to Sapporo and on to Kamikawa and the hotel. You could break the trip up further in Sapporo (or even fly Hakodate to Sapporo) as well.
