What else to do in Matsumoto

I'll be going to Matsumoto Castle in winter. And since i'll be traveling that far from tokyo, i'd like to be able to maximize my day.
Can you suggest other places near there or near nagano station?

Yes i can recommend to do half day in Matsumoto (castle) + half day in Nagano.

The Zenkoji temple and its surroundings in Nagano are definitely worth a visit. Not very close to the station, by bus it can be reached in about 10-15 min.
