During the Golden Week in January, are many of the shopping centres and restaurants closed during this week in Tokyo city?

If it is not close, would it be very pack especially for good restaurant?

Am planning a trip to Tokyo during this week and would like to understand better. Thank you.

Golden week isn't in January. But i got what you mean. Some shops, Parks and restaurants are closed on 31st of December and 1st of January and will remain close until 4th or 5th. But many shops restaurants in the touristy destination/ tourist area of Tokyo will start to open from the 2nd. If you're worried that you won't be able to get food in the 1st of January don't worry, few places will still open on that day i think, mostly big chain restaurants. But im pretty sure small independently owned premises will close.

Thank you all for the respond given, it is very helpful indeed.

Rather than Tokyo City, We may plan to visit other cities in Sapporo wondering if the restaurants and shops will be closed during that period. Please advise.

Im pretty sure it will be harder to find open restaurants/shops in sapporo than in Tokyo for that period...

Having said that there should be some that will open, im sure your hotel will be able to help. As long as you're not a picky eater you will be fine.
