JR pass vs Suica/Pasmo card? 2016/10/4 08:45
Hi. I'm traveling to Japan end of October 2016 and I'm struggling to decide on whether to get a JR pass. I'll be spending 3 days in Osaka, 3 days in Kyoto, 2 days in Kawaguchiko and 3 days in Tokyo.
Will it be better/cheaper to just get a Suica card or should I take a JR pass + Suica?
Thank you in advance for your reply.

You have not provided enough info to give a proper answer. An itinerary with a start and finsih location always helps. Include the airports you fly in and out of.

I'm arriving at Kansai international airport, departing from Tokyo Haneda airport 11 days later.
Will start in Osaka, then Kyoto (+/- Nara Park day trip). From Kyoto we going to Kawaguchiko, then on to Tokyo.
Thanks.

You do not need a 7 day JR Pass. You are not doing very much long distance travel, which is where that pass comes in handy. You might look into a discount Shinkansen Ticket from Kyoto to Tokyo. Here is a link to the slower Kodama ticket:

You may want a pass for going to Kawaguchiko, and the Fuji five lakes area. There are different passes, depending on what you are planning to do. Another link:

I hope this helps.

For Kyoto - Kawaguchiko:

Day:
Kyoto - (JR Kodama train by "Platt Kodama" explained above) - Mishima - (Fujikyu bus) - Kawaguchiko

Night:
Kyoto - (Fujikyu night bus) - Kawaguchiko

The Platt Kodama cannot be used to travel to Mishima!
