Arrival Narita Tokyo Skyaccess express? 2016/10/13 04:58
We arrive at 16:00 at Narita on Monday. We are thinking of taking the Narita Skyaccess Express to the stop at Asakusa (I think the destination of the train is Nishi-Magone--not sure. I have looked up the schedule and it looks like this would be possible with trains leaving between 5:00 and 6:00. Can you give me more details? Is the Asakusa stop on the Skyaccess the same as the train station Asakusa Station (Taito)? We will be staying at Richmond Hotel Premier Asakusa. Do I pay with Suica card? We will each be carrying one small 20 inch carry on suitcase with us. I need to make sure we can find our way to the hotel.--on foot is fine, unless it is pouring rain.Thank you for your help.

Asakusa skyaccess express stop 2016/10/13 11:46
I had already received the information from the hotel prior to writing the first time. I just want to make sure that the Asakusa stop for Skyaccess is the same as the Asakusa train station. Also prior to writing to this site before, I searched Google maps for a the directions from Asakusa Station to the hotel. I just was not sure about the stop being at the station and not some special Skyaccess station. We are seasoned senior world travelers, but we have come across all kinds of things we assumed and we assumed wrongly. Just please answer if the Asakusa stop on Skyaccess express is the same as the Asakusa train station...Yes or no is fine.
Thank you.

Small suitcases on Skyaccess Express 2016/10/13 12:26
The hotel wrote me in September stating that "Skyaccess Express has no luggage storage". That is another reason I wrote and asked if I could bring two small suitcases 20 inches and 21 inches on the train. If find it hard to believe that a train from an airport does not allow suitcases on board. Thus, I am asking for a second opinion.
I have done a lot of previous research on this and am only asking for answers to questions that are uncertain to me. I did not write to Skyaccess directly which I should have done. Perhaps you can help me. Your thoughtful and kind answer will be most appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Arrival Narita Tokyo Skyaccess express? 2016/10/13 12:28
"Narita Skyaccess Express" dosen't operate after 15:24(NRT/T1).
So you have to one transfering at Keisei-Takasago or Aoto.
(no need ticket gate out same platform very easy)
http://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/skyliner/us/index.php
Station maps :
http://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/stationmap/index.php
Fr "Keisei main line" menu then national flag. (download/open PDF)

Use HyperDia.
http://www.hyperdia.com/en/cgi/en/search.html?dep_node=NARITA%20AIRPOR...
(NOT getting off at "Asakusabashi : A16" Asakusa stn is "A18")
http://www.kotsu.metro.tokyo.jp/eng/services/sub_map.html
(A16,A18 means station numbering system for foreign travelers)
(A means Toei/Subway Asakusa line, A lot of Keisei trains operated as "through train")
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Through_train

IC card "Suica" also "PASMO" maybe good. (no big different as basic functions)
Suica provider is JR-East, PASMO is Keisei. (in NRT)
PASMO is non-JR railway(include Keisei) and bus companies group's card name.
Read both card web.
http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/pass/suica.html
http://www.pasmo.co.jp/en/

20 inch suitcase if not heavy put on overhead rack recommend.
BC your arr time already evening rush will be crawded exactly.
You will see human wall(a lot of standing passengers) fr the seat.

No luggage storage does not mean no luggage allowed.

Mimano's answer was most helpful. Thank you. I have re-checked the schedules for Limited Express, and that might work as the Access Express ends too early for us. Otherwise, we may have to take the airport Limousine. We would prefer not to make a transfer as we will be tired after a 14 hour flight.

The photo was most helpful!! I knew that conditions were crowded, but a picture is worth a thousand words!! When one is not accustomed to such crowding, you cannot imagine it. It is helping us make our decision!

Thank you again for your detailed and useful reply.

Mimano,

your arr time already evening rush will be crawded exactly.
You will see human wall(a lot of standing passengers) fr the seat.

I searched the discussion on the net (in Japanese) about the congestion of Skyaccess express at Narita airport and found many people said the congestion is not so harsh. Evening rush can't be applied to Narita airport, since this is not the business district or the residential district. I don't say Skyaccess express is comfortable. It is like a commuter train with bench-style seats, but at the same time I don't think it will be like Yamanote line in rush hour. The photo you posted is like rush hour in Yamanote line, but I guess it might be somewhere in Korea since the letters on the hanging advertising are Korean language.

Mimano's answer is good.

If the one transfer takes place on the same platform, that is worth doing!

You will arrive at the Asakusa station on the Toei line which according to the hotel's directions is 10-15 mins walk away, it won't be the station that is 3 minutes walk.

Re: NRT to Richmond Hotel Premier Asakusa 2016/10/13 23:32
Actually there are four Asakusa Stations.
The railroad station which is closest to Richmond Hotel Premier Asakusa International is
Asakusa Station of Tsukuba Express, which is apart from the three other Asakusa Stations.

We arrive at 16:00 at Narita on Monday.

Keisei timetables depend on whether that day will be a normal weekday or a public holiday.
During the coming six months until the middle of April 2017,
the 2nd and 9th of January and the 20th of March will be Monday holidays
and the other Mondays will be normal weekdays.

"Skyaccess Express" does not exist.
Access Express is a Keisei train service.
"Narita Sky Access" is a nickname
for the Keisei line connecting Narita Airport Station in NRT Terminal 1 and (Keisei) Takasago Station via Narita Yukawa.
What is misleading is that some Access Express trains run on the Keisei section outside Narita Sky Access Line.

Access Express trains of Keisei from NRT, except those bound for (Keisei) Ueno,
get to Oshiage and become there either Local or (Airport) Limited Express trains of Toei Subway
then make a stop at Asakusa Station on Asakusa Line.

Among the exits of Toei Subway Asakusa Station(A-18), only Exit A2-b is equipped with an elevator.
- Map of Asakusa Station(s) of Toei Subway (and Tokyo Metro)
http://www.kotsu.metro.tokyo.jp/subway/stations/asakusa/solid.html?wid...

From this exit, you can walk for about 850 meters to the hotel.
According to Google Street View, this route looks generally flat.
- The route on Google Maps
https://www.google.co.jp/maps/dir/35.7085447,139.796095/35.7089296,139...
: Here I set a simple route. Shorter routes exist.

"Narita Skyaccess Express" doesn't operate after 15:24(NRT/T1).

There is an Access Express train to depart at 16:04 on weekdays for Keikyu Kurihama,
which is the last direct train for Asakusa on this route through Narita Sky Access.

Until (Keisei) Takasago or Aoto, you can use Keisei Main Line instead,
in which case you pass through both entrance and intermediate gates of the Keisei station in NRT 1 or 2.

Re: Arrival Narita Tokyo Skyaccess express? 2016/10/14 00:01
I don't know how much comfort you would like to have.

The Keisei limited express trains are benched-type like - you will sit sidewards during the whole trip. If you can't put the luggage on the rack above you you will have to hold onto your suitcases during the whole train ride and this can be quite tiring.

As someone already mentioed above: take the Keisei Skyliner or Evening Liner to Ueno and then board a taxi.
Of course this option is more expensive than the limited express but much more comfortable.
http://www.keisei.co.jp/keisei/tetudou/skyliner/us/index.php

Another option is taking the Limousine bus especially if it stops near or directly at your hotel.
