Tokyo (day trips) and Kyoto, Osaka - JR Pass? 2016/10/13 07:53
I plan on being in Japan for 12 days; 4-5 days in Tokyo (with a day trips to Nagano and/or Nikko). Also planning to take train to Kyoto, Osaka and potentially Hiroshima.

Is it worth it for me to buy the 14day pass, even if I plan to stay in Tokyo (City proper) for 4-5 days?

Thanks!

Try to fit your long-distance travel into 7 days, as the 7-day JR Pass is a lot cheaper. Adding Hiroshima will make likely make a 14-day JR Pass cost-effective, but try to save money by putting all long-distance travel into 7 days.

Nagano is Y8,000 each way so basically covers the difference between the 7 and 14 day pass. Staying 12 days allows you to use a 14 day pass for your airport connections too.

Tokyo to Nagano = 8000 yen, return = x2
Tokyo to Osaka = 14,000 yen, return = x2
Osaka to Hiroshima = 10,000 yen, return = x2
Total = 64,000 yen

JRP 14D = 46,000 yen.
