Reservation of Rail Tickets to Kurobe Gorge 2016/10/25 19:18
My family has made plans to make trip to Kurobe Gorge in early November. Though I have visited the website of the railway company, I still have a handful of queries that I need to seek the answer to facilitate the planning for the trip and they are as follows:

1) Is there a need to make seats reservations in the period of early November (4-6) due to the Koyo period?
2) As the website is in Japanese I'm not able to make reservation via the website. Is there an alternate means in making the reservation if booking of seat is a necessity.
3) Am I supposed to get the returns tickets at the first station, i.e., Unazukin Onsen? It mentioned upper station. Does it imply the following station?
4) Does the returns tic entitle me to alight at each station before proceeding to the next one? The description in the website was not clear on this.

It is said that some seats are held for walk-in travelers but to be on the safe side it is better to reserve the train tickets. We did it over the phone and English was spoken. Tickets are sold station by station and not on a hop-on-hop-off basis meaning you have to buy separate tickets if you get off one station and take the train again to the next station.

Was your reservation made via the Kurobe Gorge railway company, or the tour agency?

I had a hard time communicating with the in charge when I called the railway company.

I visited Kurobe Gorge early November a few years ago, and was worried not getting a ticket, hence emailing torokko@kurotetu.co.jp for a one way reservation to Keyakidaira.
I took the earliest train, there were many empty seats.
I returned fairly late from Keyakidaira, by then most of the tourists were already gone - the train was half empty,

I tried making reservation via the website you provided but was in Japanese. I managed to go the 2nd step, i.e.,selecting the date and time based on the limited translated portion. However, I was lost when I reached the 3rd portion that required me to provide address in Japan and inputs that has no translation.

Does it require one to provide address in Japan for booking?

Liem,

Thanks for providing the email address. I've managed to book the tickets after writing in to the railway company. :)
