Kansai Area Pass and itinerary 2016/11/1 09:05
I am traveling to Japan for my honeymoon for 5 days Tokyo then 5 days in Kyoto and 2 days in Osaka. I fly into Narita but fly out of Osaka Airport, so I am guessing I don't need the full on JR Rail pass.

Would the JR Kansai Area Pass Be Better off for me? And just buying a one way from Tokyo to Kyoto.
We are going from Nov 19-Dec 1st.
Here is a rough itinerary I made based on research:
Day 1-5 in Tokyo
Day 6 Kyoto:
Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto
Arrive in Kyoto check in hotel
Ginkakuji Temple
Philosphers's path to Nazenji
Eikando (evening lightning, close to my hotel Westin Miyako)

Day 7: Kyoto
Kibune to Kurama Hike and then go to the kurama onsen. Is kibune to kurama easier or harder than kurama to kibune?

Day 8: Kyoto
Arashiyama
Bamboo Forrest
Togetsukyo Bridge
Kinkakuji

Day 9: Kyoto
Day trip to Nara, where TBD

Day 10: Kyoto
Kiyomizu-dera
Higashiyama
Kikunoi (Lunch)
Pontocho Dinner?

Day 11: Osaka
check in Osaka Intercontinental
Mount Kyota
Explore Osaka TBD

Day 12: Osaka
Morning go to Himeji
Kobe on the way back (kobe beef ^_^ restaurants TBD)

Day 13: Osaka
Osaka Aquarium
Other TBD
Fly out in the evening - Take JR Haruka to airport 1300Y one way

We are early 30's and would love to see fall foliage and do anything exciting as well. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Kindly review JR Kansai Area Pass https://www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/pass/kansai/. You can use it on Haruka train.

You also have maximum of 4 days to KAP. Move Day 9 (Kyoto to Nara) to Day 10 so to utilize KAP until Day 13. You can also drop by in Tofukuji or Fushimi-Inari-Taisha which are all accessible on JR Nara line before going to Nara if you want to. Your Day 10 (Kiyomizu et al) will be your Day 9.

Day 11 - Mt Kyota? You mean Mt. Koya or Koyasan? It's actually not included in Kansai Area Pass. Check here http://www.nankaikoya.jp/en/ and here http://www.howto-osaka.com/en/ticket/ticket/koyasan.html. KAP can only be used in JR line from Osaka to Namba (or Shin-Imamiya) as you transfer to Nankai line. Review here http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4900.html. You will be spending a whole day there or 2 if not.

If shinkansen is that irresistible, try Platt Kodama http://www.jrtours.co.jp/kodama/en/.

Else, night bus ride will do at more inexpensive price. Check Japan Bus Online, Willer Express, Kintetsu Bus, Keihan Bus, J-bus and many others here in Japan Guide (Highway bus) and thru your preferred search engine.

About Kurama to Kibune or vice versa, check here http://www.insidekyoto.com/kurama-to-kibune-hike, http://www.japanvisitor.com/kyoto/kurama-kibune and http://www.cyclekyoto.com/kibune-to-kurama.
