I am interested in seeing how tatami is made. Are there places in Japan where one can observe craftsmen making tatami? It would be most convenient in and around Aichi Prefecture.

Just letting you know that I dropped into a Tatami making shop in Nagoya. The artisan was happy to explain what he was doing. It looks like hard work on the hands. He had a thick cotton pad tied around the palm of his hand. He used this to push the large needle through the tatami.
