Yamamashi test track

Hi all,
I've seen vidoes of the test track. I know it is open to public. And that they let do display the dates of the testing of the new Super speed shinkansens!! But, can public actually test it as in sit on the train or is it just looking out the window?

Just to add, although you are not guaranteed that the test rides will take place that particular day, there is indeed a fair chance you will be able to view them. I went twice this year and during the one hour we spent in the centre, the train passed by about 5 - 6 times. You can also observe it from an open balcony from a distance of cca 10 metres.
