Karuizawa or Takasaki/Maebashi in winter? 2016/11/27 21:02
I want to go to one of these places in winter (late Dec). I want to go to enjoy nature and onsens. I have been to Karuizawa once before but this was in autum, and I've never been to Maebashi before. Which one is more "picturesque" and pretty to see during winter?

Thanks but my question was about Karuizawa or Takasaki/Maebashi, not Mount Fuji, and I didn't ask about skiing, I asked about nature and onsens.

The only way I'd recommend Maebashi over Karuizawa is if you have a car and can make it up to Mt. Haruna, which is really beautiful in winter. Unfortunately, public transport isn't easy to/from and around that area. But Haruna Shrine when it's snowing is phenominal, and the lake really neat, with illumination around it during the evenings, and I think even fireworks at one point sometime in the winter!

If you're talking about just the city of Maebashi and not the mountain areas, not worth it at all. IMO winter is the ugliest season in the Kanto plains... unless its snowing, it's all dead and brown.
