Can I do a one day trip from Kyoto to Magone? 2016/12/4 00:27
Hi,
Leaving for my first time in 12 days in Japan.
We are staying 6 days in Kyoto and was wondering if One day trip can be done to Magone.
Thanks

Hi. If you mean Magome (like Tsumago - Magome) I think it would be very easily done as a day trip from Kyoto as long as you got you train transfers right. It would be more fun on the weekend, I think, because it is very quiet during the week.

So it is shinkansen to Nagoya, and look at hyperdia to plan the next train). The page here on Tsumago explains the nearest stop.

Take the Chuo Main Line from Nagoya to Nakatsugawa and then a bus to Magome. Easily doable as a day trip.

I had a chance to visit Magome, Tsumago last week.

I recommend to visit also Tsumago not only Magome.

There are some Soba noodle restaurants.

It was one of the best soba noodle I have ever eaten.

I agree Tsumago and Magome are fairly interesting "villages". However, believe you me, the Tsumago - Magome trail looks nicer on the pictures. My experience confirmed the 3 hour hike was unexciting, humdrum, waste of effort and time.
