nomimasu ka/ nomimasen ka 2016/12/14 17:45
Hello,
What's the difference between "nomimasu ka" and "nomimasen ka"?
For the sentence "Do you want to drink sth with me?", the answer is "watashi to nanika nomimasen ka", so why not "watashi to nanika nomimasu ka"?

Watashi to nomimasen ka is an invitation, won't you drink with me?
Watashi to nomimasu ka, is asking simply ( or rather bluntly) " do you drink with me?"

It is polite to ask in negative form. It's less direct and doesn't cause an uncomfortable situation.
