where to buy pikmin figures? 2016/12/17 19:10
My nephew asked me to bring some pikmin figures for him from my next japan journey. So today I had a look at japanese amazon in english, and the figures seem to be very expensive. Are they cheaper in stores in Japan and where can I buy them? I suppose in Akihabara? I'll spend some days in Tokyo and some days in Sapporo.

Thank you very much!

Pikmin is rather old. I bought some Pikmin figures for a friend back in 2005 when I went to Tokyo that year. I found them at the big toy store in Omotesando, Kiddy Land. They were everywhere since it was still popular.

Since the game is old and no new versions have come out in many years, I highly doubt there are new toys out there. Japan tends to only stock very popular or new items in their stores. You have to take advantage of the timely trend in these toys or you will find yourself not able to get them. The fact you saw them on Amazon and were quite expensive probably says that they're out of production and only a few sellers have them and they're expensive because they're rare.

If you're still looking for them while you're in Tokyo, I'd suggest resale shops in Akihabara where people have grown tired of their toys and shops will buy used toys that are out of print or manufacture. I've seen stores like this, but I cannot tell you what they're called or where they are located exactly. While I go to Japan every year, I've long been disinterested in most things Akihabara has to offer.

Thank you very much! I don't know why my nephew likes the figures. I have never heard of them before he showed me the one figure he owns. But maybe I can find something suitable for him in those stores.

One of the biggest resale toy stores is called Mandarake. It is on one of the side streets off the main drag of Akihabara. Look for directions elsewhere on this website. They also have a huge bunch of resale shops in the Nakano Broadway shopping arcade in Nakano which is a couple of subway stops away from Shinjuku station. Good luck in your quest since it sounds like your items are rather hard to find. If you do not speak Japanese you might want to bring pictures of what you are looking for to show the shop employees. It would probably be a good idea to ask your nephew for ideas on other more current collectibles he might consider in lieu of his first choice.

Pikmin 3 came out in 2013 on the Wii U and will be coming to the 3DS next year. If I've been able to buy pikmin plushies here in Australia then it is possible to find some in Japan. Maybe check out Super Potato in Akihabara too. They specialise in retro games so may be more likely to stock pikmin than other Akihabara shops.
