7 day itinerary? 2016/12/21 23:07
hello everyone i will be going to tokyo for 7 days and 6 nights from Jan 6th to Jan 12th.

was wondering if this rough itinerary was ok? i know its really bare so any input, additions or suggestions would be great since it will be my first time there with my wife and father in law.

i am thinking about buying 7 day JR passes, is the recommended along with if any other bus/train passes are needed?

budget is roughly 100,000 yen per person. JR Pass included in the budget.

we have no idea where to eat in any of the areas. were open minded to eating anything and everything. were foodies and love street stalls but the occasional restaurant is ok as well.

i made this itinerary with a general area to visit, i dont know exactly what i want to do, since im visiting a new country it is just a bit overwhelming. i listed general areas but not really a destination so i feel like i will be wandering aimlessly...

day 1- arrive at HND airport at 5:30pm
relax the rest of the night after getting checked in at hotel in shinjuku

day 2- thinking about going to fuji five lakes and spending the day sight seeing and exploring the area.

day 3- visiting tokyo tower. trying to do some research of what to do around the tower, any suggestions would be great.

day 4- tokyo fish market, Koishikawa Korakuen, Akihabara. no idea which order yet, have yet to map it all out

day 5- tokyo sky tree and Asakusa

day 6-Shibuya, Shinjuku

day 7-off to go back home

No need for nationwide JR Pass if your travel is within Tokyo only.

As far as I know, there are various passes that covers the travel from Shinjuku to Fujigoko. Check Japan Guide for more information.

Check as well the 72-hour subway ticket good within Tokyo if that is also applicable. Most importantly, purchase SUICA or PASMO for your other subway trains within Tokyo.

The JR Pass is only worthwhile if you travel long distance. If you are travelling with 100 km of Tokyo, you are unlikely to cover the cost of the JR Pass.

Check out the following site to compare your intended travel against the cost of the JR Pass.

Enjoy you visit.

For Day 3, I found the Hamamatsucho area interesting. Near the Tokyo tower, Zojo-ji is a very atmospheric temple and the Kyu Shiba Rikyu Gardens are lovely in January. And you can go up in the World Trade Center tower if you want the Tokyo Tower in your photos.

A JR Rail Pass for your plans would a colossal waste of money.

If you'd like to expand your plans a bit, you could see the Fuji area one day, Nikko for a day, and the rest in Tokyo. A Tokyo Wide Pass would then save you some good money.

Otherwise, look at an Odakyu or other pass that might help you.

For 3 days in Tokyo, look at the 3 day subway pass:

or look at the Welcome Tokyo Subway Ticket for getting from/to Haneda and around.
